Caves

There are numerous interesting caves in the area around the lake. Some are open to the public, others can only be visited by cavers. The most famous caverns are the Buco del Piombo near Erba, the first section of which can be visited even by non cavers, and the Grotte di Rescia at Claino on Lake Lugano.

The area known as the Lariano Triangle, which is the area that lies south from Bellagio in between the two branches of the lake the one of Como and the one of Lecco, is very rich in caves. At Valbrona there are 4 (Grotta del Socio, Grotta del Maiale, Pulpito del Re, Bus di Lader). At Magreglio the Bocc di Pegur, a series of interlinked caves with numerous stalactites, is located just above the source of the Lambro river. Other caves can be seen near Nesso (Grotta Masera) and at Lezzeno (Grotta dei Bulberi).

We suggest cavers to contact the speology association or  the alpine guides Guide Alpine della Lombardia in order to visit the caves in a safe way.
